Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She has also been twice an Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She received the gold medal in the team competitions during the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas who was on her team also took home gold. Raisman also earned silver in the individual all-around and floor exercise. She is the third-most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, following Shannon Miller and Simone Biles with six Olympic medals.Raisman was also on the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist from the world championships in floor exercise in 2011. She is also the two-time national champion in floor exercise (2012,2015), the 2012 national champion on the balance beam and five-time medalist at the national championships for all around (silver in 2016, silver in 2011, 2012 2013, 2012 and 2015. In 2013 she was admitted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high-school gymnast, and Rick Raisman. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and claims that "I really enjoy being able to not just be a representative of the U.S.A but as well the Jewish community everywhere." Raisman started gymnastics at the age of 18 months. She attributes her love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8, then transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was directed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated Needham High School in 2012. She completed her senior year online and was training for the Olympics.
